WINNIPEG The Downtown Winnipeg Biz has some cool new places for Winnipeggers to sit back and relax. Local artists have been crafting Snowfas – sofas carved out of snow.

There are seven Snowfas around the downtown area, which Hardman said she hopes will draw people in from the river walk and other parts of the city.

WINNIPEG Manitobans should have realistic expectations when it comes to the new agreement struck between the province and Providence Therapeutics for two million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, according to a local epidemiologist. Providence, a Calgary-based company, is developing a messenger RNA vaccine – similar to the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines – that just recently went into the first phase of human clinical trials. Brad Sorenson, the company’s CEO, said Manitoba paid a 20 per cent non-refundable deposit as part of the deal to buy two million doses of its vaccine, including the first 200,000 produced, pending approval by Health Canada. Forty per cent of the cost is due on approval and another 40 per cent on delivery.
WINNIPEG Winnipeg police said a man tried to disarm an officer while being arrested during a wellbeing check Thursday evening, before allegedly running away barefoot in an attempt to escape arrest. Officers responded to a wellbeing call in the 1500 block of Lincoln Avenue, after receiving a 911 call that a woman was being held hostage by an adult family member who was under the influence of methamphetamine. When police arrived, they found there was no hostage incident taking place, but an adult man was in the home acting erratically and displaying signs of methamphetamine use. Officers said the man also had several outstanding warrants.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Police barricaded off an eerie scene around 7 p.m. on Friday. With bars closed on Bourbon, the Quarter is quiet.
“We’re open, open for business,” Sue Saucier, owner of Rare Finds said. “The French Quarter is not just bars and restaurants, there’s wonderful shops as well.”
Not having that foot traffic also hurts shops like Rare Finds on Decatur Street.

They advertise having quiet spaces, free Wi-Fi, and laundry services.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused travel demand to plummet.
To cope, some major hotel brands have pivoted, creating new reasons for travelers to book a stay at their properties.
In recent conversations with Insider, executives at Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, and Four Seasons each said they had developed offerings to appeal specifically to remote workers looking for a change of scenery.
It s part of a trend that the hotel industry calls bleisure travel, or trips that combine aspects of both business and leisure.
